A place in Kings Point
West Egg
The real place behind the one in the story.
West EggGatsby's side of the bay, and Nick's. Fitzgerald's West Egg is generally taken to be Kings Point, on the Great Neck peninsula of Long Island, where he was living when he began the novel.
Involuntarily I glanced seaward—and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock.
Visiting today
Kings Point is mostly private houses along the water, with little to see from the road. From Manhattan, the Long Island Rail Road runs to Great Neck.
