A place in London
Scotland Yard
As it was then: much has changed since.
Scotland YardGreat Scotland YardThe back entrance to the Metropolitan Police headquarters at Whitehall Place, which gave the force its nickname. The police moved to New Scotland Yard on the Embankment in 1890.
"Gregson is the smartest of the Scotland Yarders," my friend remarked; "he and Lestrade are the pick of a bad lot."
Visiting today
The street off Whitehall keeps its name; the old police building on it is now a hotel. Nearest stations: Charing Cross and Embankment.
