Where Gatsby wants to drive at two in the morning, alone in his blazing house. Brooklyn's seaside playground: the beach, the amusement parks, and the Wonder Wheel, which first turned in 1920 and turns still.

Visiting today

The beach and the Riegelmann Boardwalk, opened a year after the summer of the novel, are free and always open. The Wonder Wheel and the rides run from spring to autumn. Subway: Coney Island–Stillwell Av, at the end of the D, F, N and Q lines.
